Building on the success of its DiskStation DS1010+ network-attached storage solution (NAS), Synology America has this week unveiled the new DiskStation DS1511+, which arrives as a five-bay server capable of housing 15TBs (terabytes) of data. It can also host two DX510 expansion units for a total of up to 15 drives and 45TBs of storage.
Designed specifically for easy file sharing, scheduled backups, remote access, centralised management, and even the hosting of up to 30 web sites via a built-in web server, the DS1511+ is capable of pushing speeds of 165.91 MBs per second while writing and 197.8 MBs per second while reading (in RAID 5), and also includes 1GB of DDR2 RAM (expandable to 3GBs), and support for Windows ADS and ACL.
Other features include (deep breath) a 1.8GHz dual-core CPU, DiskStation Manager 3.0, enhanced iSCSI support, four USB 2.0 and two eSATA ports, DLNA/UPnP support for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, comprehensive audio, video and image file format compatibility, and free iPhone and Android apps.
Synology’s latest NAS platform also boast Surveillance Station 5, which adds the home and office security benefits of an NVR (network video recorder) that’s capable of hosting multiple IP cameras.
“The DS1511+ is the most scalable and full-featured NAS of its class,” enthused Franklin Hua, technical marketing manager at Synology America. “With the DS1511+ so affordable and packed with all the features Synology is known for, why would anyone choose DAS? This is tremendous value.”
Aimed at both home and business consumers, the Synology DiskStation DS1511+ is expected to retail for “under $900” USD.
