So, just how shallow are your pockets and how weak is your retail conviction when it comes to making the financial leap to tablet computer technology?

Earlier this week, we here at The Tech Herald offered up budget-price alternatives to Apple’s iPad or Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Tab by highlighting modest 180 GBP tablets from the likes of hardware maker Disgo and high-street fashion and furnishings retailer Next (seriously).

However, if those no-frills platforms failed to loosen your tightly constricted purse strings, then perhaps the following slice of pennywise tech will do the trick (just don’t look too closely at its specifications – or lack thereof).

Meet Morgan Computers’ new 7.0-inch tablet, which, while apparently forgoing an official brand name, is priced at a mere 85 GBP and is powered by Google’s Android operating system (ye olde version 1.7.4), a 400MHz ARM 9 (VIA8505+) mobile processor, and a somewhat measly 128MBs of RAM.

Other contributing aspects include a touch-enabled QVGA display screen (800 x 480), 2GBs of internal data storage, Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/g/n), support for microSD memory expansion and USB, a 0.3 mega-pixel webcam, and support for H.263 AVI media files.

If the Morgan tablet’s rather limited functionality (i.e., no multi-touch interface, no HD media), underpowered processor, short battery life (just three hours), and its ancient version of Android, don’t all combine to put you off, it can be purchased for 85 GBP when it launches on October 18.
