While perhaps not a first-choice selection when it comes to covering technology and gadgetry, we thought it pertinent to show you this horrific footage of a car crash that took place in Greene County, Ohio, on Monday of this week.

Let’s approach it from the somewhat tenuous angle that Pontiac Firebirds are extremely well made, to the point where launching one into a concrete bridge at 100mph and surviving the vehicle’s near disintegration is testament to its engineering.

That’s probably how 19-year-old Brennan Eden is presently feeling as he fights for his life in hospital after inexplicably cheating death when his speeding sports car careened into the central reservation on Interstate 675 before being physically hurled into the support pillar of a concrete overpass.

The resulting carnage, which, upon first viewing you couldn’t imagine anyone surviving, was captured on camera by a police cruiser as Eden lost control of the Firebird and rocketed clear of the main highway.

“It’s something you see on TV, but to see it in real life – it’s something you never want to see again,” one eyewitness told local broadcaster WDTN.

Other onlookers recounted how the Firebird had been passing cars at more than 100mph moments before it was smashed into pieces.

Thrown clear during the impact, Eden was reportedly conscious at the scene before being airlifted to nearby Miami Valley Hospital, where he is currently listed as “in critical condition.”

It has since emerged that the lucky driver had been arrested on minor drugs-related charges and released by Beavercreek Police approximately one hour before the freak crash.
