With expectation still building for the arrival of the new Palm Pre handset, which is being lauded as a potential iPhone killer, O2 and Movistar have this week secured exclusive regional deals that will bring the exciting new smartphone to Europe’s major territories.
According to an official statement released on Tuesday by mobile device specialist Palm, O2 will carry the phone across the United Kingdom, Ireland and Germany, while Movistar will provide it to customers in Spain. Both O2 and Movistar are owned by telecommunications giant Telefonica Europe.
“Europe continues to be an important region for Palm, and we’re proud to work with O2 and Movistar to spread the excitement Palm Pre has already ignited in North America,” trumpeted Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein.
Although already available in the United States, the diminutive pebble-shaped Palm Pre isn’t expected to arrive in Europe until the close of 2009’s fourth quarter. Regional pricing has not yet been confirmed.
Bell Mobility will also begin offering the phone to customers in Canada during the latter half of the year.
