The AC100 is a 'mobile Internet device' not a Netbook

Stop calling it a Netbook! Image: Toshiba.
Seemingly not content with hogging this week’s new-release spotlight via the concept Libretto W100 and business-slanted Portege R700, Toshiba has also announced its very first Android-powered portable computer.
Sporting a physical size that’s likely to see it lumped in with the Netbook crowed, the Toshiba AC100 “mobile Internet device” offers up a 10.1-inch LED-backlit display (1024x600) and runs on a combination of NVIDIA’s 1GHz Tegra 250 Mobile Processor and version 2.1 of Google’s increasingly popular Android operating system.
While other Netbook devices provide ample data storage, the AC100 only has space for 8GBs – which isn’t much these days. That being said, Toshiba’s little computer hasn’t been built to serve as a multimedia workhorse, and the basic 8GBs can be expanded via SD card.
Other contributing aspects crammed into the skinny AC100 (14mm at its thinnest, 21mm at its thickest) include HDMI out, Bluetooth 2.1, WLAN 802.11b/g/n, optional 3G, a USB 2.0 port, a card reader with mini USB plug, the Opera Mobile browser, around eight hours of battery time, and a basic 1.3 mega-pixel camera.
The Toshiba AC100 is expected to arrive at retail in August of this year. Price points have not yet been confirmed.
