Touted as “100% confirmed” by the diligent tech watchers at Boy Genius, the iconic Apple iPhone is supposedly heading for yet another generational re-imagining that will further improve the popular smartphone’s overall performance.
While not directly revealing its sources, the eagle-eyed technology outfit reports that “someone pretty high up in AT&T’s food chain” has revealed that a third iteration of the iPhone will be officially unveiled this coming June.
Much as the original EDGE iPhone was launched in June of 2007 and surpassed in July of 2008 by the broadband 3G model, the upcoming handset upgrade is reportedly indicative of a trend that will see Apple and AT&T working to grace the U.S. market with a refreshed iPhone every summer.
According to the (still speculative) coverage offered up by Boy Genius, the revamped iPhone’s core point of focus will see it delivering faster speeds, while it could even carry a new Infineon chipset and support improved 3G thanks to AT&T’s much vaunted network upgrade to 7.2Mbps HSDPA connectivity.
While far from concrete proof that Boy Genius has its thumb firmly pressed on Apple and AT&T’s pulse, fellow technology followers Apple Insider note that the summer overhaul rumour is supported by a similar claim made by UAE provider Etisalat, which recently said it would be in possession of a new iPhone in June.
