Portable navigation specialist TomTom has this week announced its TomTom GO x50 LIVE range, which is set to arrive as a trio of new flagship devices that combine expanded LIVE Services with the company’s leading IQ Routes technology and a fully optimised user interface.

The 550, 750 and 950 model variants of the new GO x50 LIVE platform culminate in “the ultimate navigation package on the market today,” according to TomTom, which also claims it provides users with a navigational experience that’s more intuitive and easier to operate than ever before.

“As the world’s leading provider of navigation solutions and digital maps, it is our duty to constantly break new ground, developing unique technologies with the sole purpose of making the driver’s journey more reliable, predictable and affordable,” trumpeted Corinne Vigreux, managing director of TomTom.

“Our unique innovations guarantee the fastest routes, so users are empowered to confidently deal with the ever-changing road situation and take the right decisions accordingly,” she added.

Some of the features included in TomTom’s LIVE Service include real-time travel updates and “at a glance” access to pre-journey information, while HD Traffic, safety alerts and fuel prices are all clearly displayed on screen via the newly introduced LIVE Snapshot.

In terms of individual map coverage, the GO x50 LIVE range sees the 550 model offering maps of specific countries or regions in Europe, while the 750 provides “seamless door-to-door” navigation across a total of 45 European countries.

Slightly more able to tackle anything untoward a journey might throw up, the top-tier 950 comes with the same content as the 750 along with maps for the United States and Canada as well as Enhanced Positioning Technology (EPT) for continuous navigation when moving through tunnels.

The GO x50 LIVE range also includes TomTom’s unique Map Share technology, which allows users to make instant changes to maps based on circumstance and share those helpful alterations with other TomTom users via the HOME desktop application.

Other contributing aspects include more than 800 billion historic speed measurements of 15 million road kilometres across 24 European countries, along with calculations for the fastest possible routes that take into account changing road conditions.

TomTom has not yet divulged the respective price points of its new GO x50 LIVE range – although its LIVE Services will be offered on a monthly subscription rate of 7.99 GBP.
