Despite being late to the high-definition party due to the prolonged mourning of its failed HD DVD format, Japanese consumer electronics specialist Toshiba has finally quit wailing and drawn back its heavy black curtains to reveal its very first Blu-ray player.

Eager to play catch-up with the rest of the Blu-ray crowd whilst also banishing the HD DVD ghost, the new Toshiba BDX2000 comes equipped with Full 1080p HD capabilities (24fps) and also supports BD-Live (Profile 2.0) for an extended Blu-ray experience when connected online via an Ethernet connection.

“From listening to our customers we know they demand access to full high definition content,” commented Jodi Sally, vice president of marketing for Toshiba’s Digital A/V Group. “With the introduction of our BDX2000 we are offering consumers what they want with a breath-taking HD viewing experience to meet the needs of today’s home theater.”

Accented by a sleek but slender form factor with a smoked mirrored front panel, the BDX2000 also provides HD fans with Bonus View for picture-in-picture interaction, and an on-board SD card slot for easy viewing of standard definition photos and videos.

Other contributing aspects include AVCHD playback, enhanced audio performance through Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio Essential, as well as added support for Toshiba’s own line of high-definition REGZA televisions.

The BDX2000 is expected to haul itself aboard the Blu-ray bandwagon in November of this year attached to a recommended retail price of $249.99 USD.
