After Toshiba tickled our taste buds earlier this week by revealing the extremely sexy Libretto W100, which it described as the world’s first dual-screen laptop with full multitouch functionality, the electronics giant is twiddling with the temptation meter again by unveiling the new Portege R700.

Announced through the company’s Digital Products Division, the latest entrant to Toshiba’s Portege line is aimed squarely at business users and is set to arrive in the United States as “the world’s lightest full performance ultraportable laptop.”

Weighing in at a mere three pounds and sporting a profile of less than an inch, the standard Portege R700 sells for $999 USD and comes complete with Intel’s Core i3 processor, 4GBs of DDR3 RAM, and a spacious 500GB hard drive.

Other features include, a high-definition 13.3-inch LED-backlit display, Windows 7 Professional, a built-in DVD SuperMulti drive, an on-board Web camera, and up to 8.5 hours of operation via a high-capacity six-cell battery (12.5 hours can be attained via an optional nine-cell battery).

The R700 is also available with an Intel Core i5-520M processor and a 320GB hard drive for $1,300 USD, and with an Intel Core i7-620M processor and 128GBs of SSD storage for $1,600 USD.

Clearly keen not to miss an opportunity with general tech consumers, Toshiba is also offering up the Portege R705 for $890 USD, which will be sold exclusively through Best Buy from June 27.

The consumer version will carry many of the same core hardware specifications as the standard R700 (Core i3, 4GBs of RAM, 500GB hard drive), but will lack ExpressCard or docking capabilities.

The business editions of Toshiba’s Portege R700 line are available now.
