The glitzy E3 Expo in Los Angeles might presently be holding our attention in terms of technology news, but that doesn’t mean we here at The Tech Herald are so utterly consumed that we can’t find a little time to force a new Netbook into the limelight. As our readers know, we’ve always got time for Netbooks.

So, divert your eyes from footage of Microsoft’s impressive keynote, shift focus from the goodies Nintendo and Sony have waiting in the wings, and feast your eyes on the new NB205 Netbook from Toshiba. Who needs Project Natal or Splinter Cell: Conviction anyway?

Like so many Netbooks before it, the diminutive NB205 ultra mobile comes complete with a 10.1-inch LCD screen (though this one is LED backlit), while carrying Intel’s eponymous Atom processor (N280), 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and Microsoft’s Windows XP Home operating system.

However, while its core specifications are distinctly par for the course when it comes to Netbook hardware, a hands-on review of the NB205 by LaptopMag has lauded Toshiba for the computer’s “unique design, stellar keyboard and trackpad combo, and a long-lasting battery,” that delivers up to nine hours of single-charge operation.

Specifically, the $399 USD version of the Toshiba NB205 comes with raised horizontal lid lines, an elegant bronze hinge covering, a generous and comfortable trackpad, and a distinctive metal island keyboard layout, which LatopMag describes as “one of the best netbook keyboards we’ve seen,” and apparently even rivals that of the HP Mini 2140.

So it might not win any awards when it comes to processing muscle and overall performance, but if you’re looking to secure a little style while purchasing your pennywise and Web-centric slice of the ongoing Netbook phenomenon, then Toshiba’s NB205 is certainly worth a look.

Oh, and did we tell you Microsoft yesterday used its E3 keynote to confirm that Konami’s Metal Gear Solid franchise is no longer exclusive to the PlayStation platform?

We didn’t? Click below for more.
