Less than five inches long, three inches wide, and sporting a profile of just half an inch, the lightweight Canvio from Toshiba (it weighs a mere six ounces) fully justifies its position as a genuinely portable data storage solution in a market where the ever-increasing availability of multimedia content is pushing consumer demands.
Not just boasting the aesthetic appeal of an attractive and svelte chassis, the Canvio's credibility is bolstered yet further by Toshiba's willingness to offer its new hard drive in a range of storage sizes starting at the solid 500GB (gigabyte) unit and reaching as high as the extremely spacious 1TB (terabyte) model.
“The Canvio appeals to consumers with diverse digital comfort levels – it's easy to use with simple plug-and-play operation for novices and offers customizable options for tech-savvy users,” outlines Toshiba. “With an easy setup process and “set-it-and-forget-it” operation, the Canvio product line can automatically and regularly back up a computer while in use.”
All Canvio models come equipped with Windows-based NTI BackupNow EZ software for improved search and restore capabilities, along with a complete and customisable system backup feature that allows users to restore selected files or an entire computer's drive content – even if Windows refuses to function.
In terms of workable storage, the undeniably roomy 1TB Canvio is likely to appease the needs of even the most demanding user, thanks to its ability to hold up to 285,000 digital photos, some 263,000 digital music files and around 820 digital movies.
Compatible with Windows 7, Vista and XP, the Canvio is available in five different colours and comes attached to storage-specific prices of $120 USD for 500GBs, $140 USD for 640GBs, $160 USD for 750GBs and $200 USD for 1TB.
