This week it was announced that the Nintendo Wii home console will not only receive its own version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but Nintendo fans can also rest easy regarding the title’s expected quality.
Moreover, with series stalwart Infinity Ward working alongside recently formed Sledgehammer Games to bring Modern Warfare 3 to Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, fellow Call of Duty heavyweight Treyarch will be handling development duties on Wii.
For those not in the know, Treyarch has been associated with Call of Duty for many years and recently shrugged off its label of being a distant second best to Infinity Ward via the critically and commercially acclaimed Black Ops.
“The great thing is Treyarch proved you can have an awesome experience on the Wii with Call of Duty [Black Ops],” enthused Infinity Ward creative strategist Robert Bowling during a One of Swords podcast. “They’ll actually be handling that for Modern Warfare 3.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will pick up the existing terrorist-centred narrative thread directly after the climax of Modern Warfare 2. However, this time the trigger-happy military action will be spread across major cities such as London, Berlin, Paris and New York.
Modern Warfare 3 is expected to hit Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Games for Windows on November 8. The dedicated Wii version is likely to arrive before the close of 2011.
