Already saddled with heavy criticisms from the judging panel on Dancing with the Stars, the future participation of legendary Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has been called into doubt after news that the twinkle-toed technology guru has fractured his foot.
However, having already described his opening Cha Cha Cha with professional dancer Karina Smirnoff as the most fun he’s ever had, a determined Wozniak has said he plans to dance on through the pain in order to show once and for all that “geeks can dance.”
Speaking via his official page on social networking service Facebook, the mighty ‘Woz’ revealed that he had been whisked off to see a doctor shortly after Tuesday’s season debut on ABC.
“The doctor was very familiar with the show and knew how to address the camera and speak good sound bites for possible airing on TV,” explained Wozniak, who had Smirnoff and a professional camera crew in tow. “He explained to me that I had a fracture.”
After undergoing a thorough examination of the injury, the doctor reached a compromise with Woziak that would enable him to continue dancing on the show.
The Apple co-founder explained that “it might be possible, with risk, to continue,” but the doctor insisted on the use of a removable cast, except during practice sessions, and that the tech icon will stop immediately should he experience any form of acute pain.
Despite being stuck at the foot of the judges’ leader board with 12 other celebrities placed above him, and being labelled as “a Tellytubby going mad at a gay pride parade,” by Bruno Tonioli, Wozniak’s pure entertainment value is clear.
Specifically, the big man has playfully noted that the light entertainment show’s season debut “set a record with 23 million viewers… I hope that the producers decide that it was largely due to my presence.”
“I promise to make the next dance wild and fast and all-over and crazy and fun, just like the first one,” continued Wozniak ahead of week two. “If the judges are out of sync with what the viewers like to see, so be it. The show can always get new judges.”
Show two of Dancing with the Stars will be aired at 20:00 Eastern on Monday, March 16.
