If you haven’t already succumbed to the demographic-busting draw of the Wii, there has never been a better—or should that be cheaper—time to familiarize yourself with Nintendo’s motion-sensing home console.

More pointedly, several heavyweight U.S. retailers have this week moved to revitalize the console’s flagging consumer momentum by aggressively slashing the Wii’s price by $30 USD.

That now means the likes of GameStop, Best Buy, Target and Amazon.com are all slapping $169.99 USD price tags on the device—perhaps tellingly given rumors suggesting Nintendo will itself announce an even lower $150 USD price on May 15.

In terms of seeking out best value, CVG reports that Best Buy boasts the leading cut-price package in offering customers the Black Wii, the Wii Remote Plus controller, Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort in return for their monetary outlay.

Of course, it remains to be seen if this sudden rush of cuts is a stock-clearing exercise designed to pave the way for the much talked about arrival of the Wii HD.

According to recent whispers regarding the Wii’s more muscular successor, Nintendo is expected to officially debut the console during June’s E3 Expo in Los Angeles.
