While the micro-blogging bird hasn’t quite flown the nest, regular users of Twitter have had their tweeting wings clipped today after the hugely popular messaging site was hit by a mystery operational malfunction.
“We are experiencing site availability issues this morning,” relayed Twitter via its official support feed. “Users may notice that their timelines are updating slowly. All tweets will eventually be delivered.”
According to Twitter, the site was struck early on Wednesday by sudden “availability issues” and other “errors” that contributed to sporadic outages, a slowdown in normal service, and the dispatch of warning alerts for those users unable to log-in to their accounts.
In a preventative move designed to stabilise the messaging service, Twitter has since opted to turn off some of the site’s features, which include Twitter Search, photo uploads, RSS feeds and HoverCards.
“We’re working to address these issues quickly,” the support page offered by way of reassurance. “Thanks for your patience!”
