UK consumers swarm for revamped PlayStation 3

Much as was suspected following poor consumer interest during the week prior to the arrival of Sony’s new PlayStation 3 Slim and a general PlayStation 3 hardware price cut, regional sales connected to the refreshed videogame console could be about to skyrocket.
More pointedly, UK retail performance specialist ChartTrack has revealed that September’s first week of sales show the PlayStation 3 console to have enjoyed a massive sales boost of at least 1,000 percent when gauged against the last week of August.
Speaking with videogame site Spong, a spokesman for ChartTrack indicated recent sales of the PlayStation 3 have risen beyond 1,000 percent, but was unable to attach an exact figure to the console given that the percentage tracking system utilised by the company only reaches as high as 999 percent.
“There has actually been more than an 11-fold increase in sales over the previous week,” he explained. “The PS3 also outsold the other three top-selling consoles (Xbox 360, Wii and DS) by 3-1. That’s not all together by 3-1 but respectively each of those sold roughly the same number.”
The obvious appeal of a significant price cut and revamped hardware has clearly benefited the UK market, and such enthusiastic consumer response is likely to be replicated as regional sales figures for the week begin to filter through.
Expectation in Japan, Sony’s home territory, is thought be high after last week’s PlayStation 3 sales plummeted by around 50 percent on the back of mounting anticipation for the Slim and its accompanying price adjustment.
