Not that the following slice of news will take hard-done-by UK gamers by surprise, but upcoming Wii price cuts for North America and Japan are now expanding to mainland Europe – bypassing the British Isles in the process.

Specifically, Nintendo’s hugely popular home videogame console, which is this generation’s market leader, is to receive a €50 Euro drop across Europe, taking the platform’s price point down to a more tempting €199 Euros ahead of the busy holiday season.

The geographically progressive price cuts are likely to put plenty of noses out of joint in the UK, where prospective Wii buyers are to be offered a special 199 GBP hardware/software bundle including the console, Wii Sports Resort, Wii Sports, a Wii Remote & Nunchuk and the new Wii MotionPlus control adapter.

It’s not all bad news though. Moreover, online trade magazine GamesIndustry.biz has suggested prominent UK retailers such as Amazon.co.uk, Play.com, GAME and HMV are expected to offer the tweaked hardware/software bundle for 179 GBP – which matches the price they currently place on the existing Wii Sports bundle.
