A cursory glance at the Wii U home console may suggest its upcoming release will represent little more than Nintendo’s delayed adoption of core tech long-since utilised by market rivals Microsoft and Sony.

That being said, improved high-definition graphics equate to a mere surface change and various industry players are already applauding the Wii U for its revamped motion-sensing controller, which comes equipped with a spacious 6.0-inch touch-screen display.

The latest such outburst comes from French developer and publisher Ubisoft, which has suggested that the Wii U and is capable of mirroring the original Wii in its potential to “change the video game industry”.

“We feel this console is coming with very innovative features that will change the video game industry and we want to be part of that,” trumpeted Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot during a recent Gamasutra interview.

“I love that you have a screen very close to you,” he enthused. “You can get information and send it as well. But you don’t have to learn too many things.”

Shifting that unbridled anticipation into the misty realms of prediction, the heavyweight chief executive even went so far as to suggest the Wii U’s arrival will spark an industry transition and the emergence of new gaming hardware.

All will be revealed when the Wii U hits retail shelves in 2012.
