Considering that this week’s latest arrival on the Verizon Wireless network (for there have been many) is called the Twist, it’s hardly a surprise to note that it puts ‘a twist’ on modern mobile messaging. However, Nokia’s latest twisty swivel phone does stand out from the crowd when considering its odd shape and that every purchase helps raise awareness towards a good cause.

Described by Verizon and Nokia as “a fun phone,” the 7705 Twist boasts a unique square design that swivels to reveal a full QWERTY keypad. It also comes with a 2.4-inch TFT QVGA display, EV-DO Rev. 0 and Bluetooth connectivity, a 3.0 mega pixel camera (with auto focus and video capture), voice-enabled handset commands, speakerphone options, and an on-board HTML Web browser.

Along with the appeal of Verizon services such as V CAST Music with Rhapsody, V CAST Video and VZ Navigator, the Twist also supports a host of messaging options, such as Mobile Email, Mobile Web Mail, threaded messaging, Visual Voice Mail and Corporate Email.

Enhancing its messaging versatility, the Twist also comes with shortcut buttons for easy access to messaging services and even includes a special Contact Light Ring on the chassis that can be customised to identify an incoming message or call from friends and family listed in the handset’s contact directory.

Factoring in a mail-in rebate of $50 USD, the Nokia 7705 Twist will cost $99.99 USD and will be available for online purchase this coming September 13. It will hit bricks and mortar Verizon Wireless Stores from September 21.

Between October 06 and October 26 – which stocks last – customers purchasing a Nokia 7705 Twist will receive a free picture frame lanyard to help raise awareness for HopeLine, which provides support towards the prevention of domestic violence.

Also, all old phones donated to HopeLine through Verizon Wireless Stores will be used to supply victims of domestic violence with an emergency handset.
