So you think your pseudo-professional 12 mega-pixel SLR digital camera is badass, do ya? Think again.
What you’re looking at here is a 360-degree photo of the London skyline, which, at a whopping 80 giga pixels (that’s 80 billion pixels), is officially the world’s highest-resolution panoramic photograph.
Existing as something of an advanced Street View snapshot of life within England’s capital, the photo was taken by photographer Jeffrey Martin while atop the city’s 36-storey Centre Point tower and includes almost all of London’s most famous landmarks.
Although it’s perhaps difficult to immediately discern the likes of Big Ben, The London Eye, Buckingham Palace or Westminster Abbey, the photo’s extreme resolution means that zooming in on said features quickly reveals them in near-perfect clarity.
Indeed, the level of detail is so stunning that it’s even possible to peer directly into office buildings and pick out individual people going about their daily business.
According to Mr. Martin, the photo took a total of three days to capture and consists of 7886 individual high-resolution snaps that were later assembled into a single image via computer.
If printed out in physical form, the final image would require a piece of photographic paper approximately 35 metres long and 17 metres high.
