In these times of ecological focus, the thrill of speed-based performance in modern road cars has become increasingly overshadowed by the importance of economy and ecology-based performance. Bearing that in mind, meet the new front-wheel drive Volkswagen E-Up.
According to powerhouse German automaker Volkswagen, its upcoming E-Up is a snazzy little electric car that’s expected to shift into full production by 2013 and will turn its wheels about town for an impressive 130 kilometres on a single charge of its lithium ion battery.
And, clearly envisaging a bright future for its ecologically friendly E-Up, Volkswagen also expects its compact electric offering to gain enough traction to rival the production momentum of some of its other established small cars by the year 2020.
Currently only in the concept stage, the E-Up was presented by Volkswagen during this week’s Frankfurt Auto Show in Germany.
Also attached to a production schedule of 2013, Volkswagen used the Frankfurt event to showcase the futuristic lines of its second-generation L1 concept, which combines a lightweight and aerodynamic chassis with diesel/electric hybrid propulsion to deliver a fuel efficiency of 170 miles per gallon.
