The traditional rush of consumer spending may be winding down now that Black Friday has passed, but that hasn’t stopped American retail titan Walmart from attempting to keep customers focused on spending, thanks to some tempting pre-Christmas videogame deals.
Specifically, Walmart is hacking up to 20 percent from the prices of 25 popular videogame titles, including music rhythm juggernaut Rock Band: The Beatles, flagship sci-fi shooter Halo: ODST, and zombie action epic Left 4 Dead 2. The software offer will expire on December 24.
Not stopping at just videogame deals, Walmart has also said it will hand over a $50 USD redeemable gift voucher to anyone willing to purchase Nintendo’s hugely popular motion-sensing Wii home console ($199 USD) between December 05 and December 12.
Walmart’s move arrives as just the latest of the retailer’s recently announced weekly deals and price cuts designed to inspire continued interest in the consumer electronics market as the festive season looms large.
Looking to deliver counter aggression on the gaming front, specialist videogame retailer GameStop has matched, and even bettered, some of Walmart’s software prices, offering both Halo: ODST and Left 4 Dead 2 (amongst others) for $40 USD.
