As the May release of L.A. Noire creeps ever closer, renowned videogame studio Rockstar Games has this week moved to focus consumer interest by unveiling more retailer-exclusive extra content.
Specifically, a new teaser trailer for the atmospheric crime investigation is currently showcasing the 'A Slip of the Tongue' case, which will be offered up to those North American gamers who pre-order the Team Bondi-developed title through Walmart.
Interestingly, the word “exclusive” seemingly ceases to carry weight over the pond in Europe, where the same case file adventure is being offered to anyone who pre-orders L.A. Noire from online store Play.com.
Based upon what we can glean from the brief 30-second trailer, A Slip of the Tongue revolves around an incidence of car theft and the old “I didn't mention his first name” narrative cliché.
However, what appears to be an open-and-shut case quickly expands into a flurry of intrigue and gunplay... that we suspect will link back to the game's grizzly series of Black Dahlia murders.
This isn't the first time Rockstar has bolstered appeal for L.A. Noire by bundling pre-orders with exclusive episodic content. For example, pre-orders registered at GameStop will secure the Naked City vice case, which involves the investigation of a murdered model.
Reaching beyond Naked City, GameStop customers will also receive the Badge Pursuit Challenge, which sees players tasked with collecting 20 incentivised police shields hidden throughout the game world.
L.A. Noire, which boasts some of the finest facial animation ever seen in a videogame, will be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this coming May 17 in the U.S., and May 20 in Europe.
