When following wedding day tradition and lobbing the bridal bouquet towards expectant female friends and family members, it’s fairly ‘traditional’ to witness a frantic scramble and a small pile up of bodies. However, what is not ‘traditional’ is for the proffered bouquet to bring down a low-flying aircraft.
Moreover, when a newly married Italian couple in Suvereto, near Livorno, hired a light aircraft to pass overhead and deliver the bride’s bouquet towards gathered wedding guests, they probably weren’t expecting to receive the unfortunate memories they’ve been left with.
Specifically, 44-year-old Isidoro Pensieri, who was travelling aboard the small plane, has been left hospitalised with multiple fractures and a head injury after the bouquet he was tasked with throwing was sucked into the engine and the plane plummeted into the ground.
According to a BBC report, the wayward bouquet caused the engine to catch fire and explode, which resulted in pilot Luciano Nannelli losing control of the plane as it abruptly entered a dive and slammed into a busy hostel near Montioni Park.
Luckily, the pilot and all 50 of the hostel’s residents emerged unharmed from the incident.
Various reports in the region outline that Mr. Pensieri was airlifted to a hospital in Grosseto and has since been transferred to another hospital in Pisa where he is making a recovery.
