Windows 7 and Microsoft Store to arrive together this Thursday?

Given that Microsoft’s new Windows 7 computer operating system (OS) is set to officially launch this coming Thursday, October 22, it’s perhaps no surprise to learn that Microsoft could be looking to maximise media coverage by opening the doors of its first walk-in retail store on the same day.
While still consigned to the realm of rumour – mainly because the Redmond-based software titan has not actually officially dated its store opening – a related report by technology watchers Engadget suggests Microsoft’s first bricks and mortar outlet will indeed welcome customers on Thursday.
More pointedly, Engadget has apparently received revealing advertisements from the Arizona Republic newspaper that indicate the Microsoft Store in Scottsdale Fashion Square, Scottsdale, will have its grand opening at 10:00 am on October 22.
And, in a move to sprinkle some fairy dust over the event, Microsoft will also reportedly be doling out sexy goody bags to the first 1,000 customers through the door – free ZuneHD, a copy of Windows 7 or Office 2010, cheap branded stickers and redeemable vouchers with minimal value? We’d opt for the latter.
However, while the Arizona newspaper ad appears to nail the opening’s exact date, time, and surrounding promotional glitz, the Wall Street Journal claims the store will unlock its cash registers with far less fanfare, with Microsoft opening the Scottsdale location a few days after all the Windows 7 launch fuss has subsided.
