The following arrives as a shocking cautionary tale for those of you that believe life simply wouldn’t be worth living if the near-umbilical attachment to your mobile phone were severed.

A young London woman waiting at Wimbledon railway station was struck by a speeding cross-country service at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday as she attempted to retrieve her dropped handset from the tracks.

Although emergency services were called to the incident, 23-year-old Charlene Pickering from Walton-on-Thames died at the scene. The authorities do not consider her death to be suspicious.

It is believe the accident happened as Ms Pickering—who is survived by her four-your-old son Toby—was traveling home with her boyfriend Daniel Pickett after watching a football match between Chelsea and Portsmouth.

“This appears to have been a tragic accident and our thoughts remain with the woman’s family at this very difficult and sad time for them,” commented Chief Inspector Alison Evans.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police has said an accident investigation team is presently preparing an official report for the coroner.
