With the iTunes Store zooming past 10 billion downloads this week, Apple Inc. has made good on its promise to bestow a $10,000 USD gift card upon the customer responsible for making the landmark purchase.

The lucky customer has been revealed as 71-year-old Louie Sulcer, who was contacted by none other than Apple boss Steve Jobs on Wednesday evening and told of his impending good fortune.

Despite R&B outfit the Black Eyed Peas holding both first and third spots when it comes to the most popular iTunes downloads (for ‘I Gotta Feeling’ and ‘Boom, Boom, Pow’ respectively), the 10 billionth store purchase made by Mr. Sulcer was Johnny Cash’s 1958 classic ‘Guess Things Happen That Way’.

Duly armed with $10,000 USD of store credit, Mr. Sulcer of Woodstock, Ga., now has virtually unlimited access to more than 12 million songs, along with a vast array of multimedia content spanning movies, TV shows and software applications.
