Video-sharing service YouTube has this week launched a major design revamp, resulting in an aesthetic flavor that brings the Google-owned site closer to some of the Net’s most prominent social networks.

Beyond the obvious additions of two large buttons linking through to Facebook and Google+, the new-look YouTube sports a central video feed that displays specific video content uploaded by known ‘friends’ on Google’s social platform.

Leaning on the whole ‘subscription’ angle, the fresh-faced YouTube also has a main-page feature that allows users to attach themselves to their favourite video channels.

Other elements see the inclusion of Homepage customization templates and a Recommendations feed, the latter of which cherry picks and delivers content tailored to the tastes and usage history of individual subscribers.

If you’d like to know more before throwing yourself into Google’s revised YouTube, the site is currently running a tour of all the new features.
