If you’re tempted to put Microsoft’s widely applauded Windows Phone platform through its paces, but perhaps don’t fancy splashing out on one of Nokia’s upper-tier Lumia devices, there’s a more budget-friendly alternative you might consider.

Specifically, ZTE has just announced its new Tania handset, which will be launched soon in the UK and will likely bolster the accessibility and demographic appeal of the Windows Phone operating system.

In terms of pricing, the ZTE Tania is expected to cost British consumers a mere £10-£20 GBP per month (on contract), while a SIM-free version will be attached to a buying price of £249.99 GBP.

While its contract-based pricing is minimal, the Tania doesn’t lack for capable (if not uninspiring) features, thanks to a generous 4.3-inch touchscreen, a 1GHz processor, 512MBs of RAM, a rear-facing 5.0 mega-pixel camera with flash and autofocus, and the latest Mango update of Windows Phone 7.

Other aspects include 4GBs of data storage, the capacity to service as a Wi-Fi hotspot (which IS actually quite good), a screen resolution of 800x480, a 1400mAh rechargeable battery, and a physical profile of just over a centimeter.

Expect the ZTE Tania to elbow its way onto retail shelves this coming February 13.
