The mill of rumor churns incessantly where Apple products are concerned, and today we bring you news regarding the hotly anticipated but as-yet unreleased third generation of Cupertino’s iconic iPad tablet.
According to tech watchers at Boy Genius Report (BGR), the iPad 3 will arrive in two different configurations, one carrying only Wi-Fi connectivity, while the other will have Wi-Fi and embedded GSM, CDMA and LTE (4G).
Looking beyond the device’s connectivity, BGR’s source—which claims to be in possession of a fully functioning prototype unit—has also revealed that the iPad 3 will indeed be powered by the enhanced quad-core A6 processor.
By way of proof, the unnamed source has provided a selection of qualifying images taken via development and debug tool iBoot, which purportedly show model numbers ‘J1’ and ‘J2’ for each of the iPad models.
The processor’s model number—S5L8945X—also ties in nicely with those used for the original iPad’s A4 chip and the current A5 processor used aboard the iPad 2 (S5L8930X and S5L8940X respectively).
As per usual, Apple is not offering any official comment on the matter. The iPad 3 is expected to be formerly unveiled in March of this year.
