iPad on schedule but accessories are lagging behind

When it comes to highly anticipated hardware launches, it’s usually the hardware itself that suffers an annoying delay because of some unforeseen manufacturing problem – not the product’s accompanying range of accessories.

However, that’s exactly what’s happened in the case of Apple’s upcoming iPad, which will arrive on time this coming April 03 (Wi-Fi version) without being affected by any kind of delay. Some if its accessories, on the other hand, aren’t likely to ship until several weeks after the tablet computer hits the market.

According to an Electronista report, the iPad keyboard dock – a full-size home keyboard that also doubles as a charging dock – won’t be available until some time in May, while the same tentative May street date has also been applied to the iPad’s 10-watt USB power adapter.

And, if Apple Store shipping dates are accurate, those new iPad owners looking to secure a protective case for their ultra-portable device will have to wait until around mid-April.

April 03 won’t be a complete bust for new iPad owners (core hardware notwithstanding) however, as the iPad dock and iPad dock connector to VGA adapter are still expected to ship on the tablet computer’s launch day.

Apple has not yet issued any formal explanation as to why many of the iPad's accessories will not be ready in time for the tablet's launch.
