In more Apple-flavored legal news, the Cupertino-gadget giant is currently having its iconic iPad tablets yanked from retail shelves in China after losing a branding battle with Taiwanese monitor manufacturer Proview International.
What’s more, according to reports in Hebei Youth Daily and DigiCha, concerned retailers in the city of Shijaizhuang have begun removing their iPad stock from open view in order to avoid confiscation by prowling officials from the Administrations of Industry and Commerce (AIC).
Although not ‘officially’ stocked for sale, the highly sought after tablet computer reportedly remains available for purchase, but prospective buyers apparently need to ask for it directly.
The AIC’s crusade to pull the device from retailers and resellers comes after a court in December ruled in favor of Shenzhen-based Proview, which lodged a complaint against Apple regarding its use of the iPad trademark
Proview has since demanded that Apple issue a formal apology for infringing upon its brand name and is also looking to secure a whopping $38 million USD in compensation.
Apple is presently in the process of appealing the court’s decision.
