Released on Monday, the latest iTunes software update addresses usage hiccups related to synch crawling on some platforms when using iTunes 9.2, and also fixes an issue connected to encrypted backups after upgrading the iPhone and iPod Touch to iOS 4.

Perhaps the most noteworthy change in an otherwise low-key update is that the installation of iTunes 9.2.1 will result in the disabling of “older versions of some incompatible third-party plug-ins.”

Sadly however, while certainly an interesting aspect, Apple has not divulged any details as to which third-party plug-ins are affected by the update.

Beyond adding in general improvements regarding stability and performance, another problematic wrinkle ironed out by version 9.2.1 concerns minor issues connected to the dragging and dropping of files within the iTunes platform.

The iTunes 9.2.1 release is completely free and can be accessed through the Software Update feature. It can also be acquired via the official Apple Support website.

Apple Mac users will need OS X 10.4.11 or later to download the update, while PC users will require Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later. Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7 are also supported.
