Avid download consumer happy to spend your hard-earned green at the iTunes Store? If so, that dedication could soon reap considerable customer reward following news that Apple is offering $10,000 USD of free content to coincide with the service’s 10 billionth download.

“iTunes changed the way you buy music, making songs and albums available for download, day or night,” commented Apple on the success of iTunes. “Seven years later, we’re about to celebrate our biggest milestone yet – 10 billion songs downloaded.”

“Buy a song, and if it’s the 10 billionth download, you could win a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card,” added the Cupertino-based gadget giant regarding the tantalising freebie. “It’s our way of saying thanks.”

Of course, those iTunes regulars currently salivating at the thought of building an outrageously long download queue on Apple’s dime should bear in mind a few terms and conditions.

Specifically, the winner must be over 13 years of age and reside in one of the 50 countries that support an iTunes Store. Also, while Apple’s competition carries a ‘no purchase necessary’ option, entries are limited to 25 per person, per day – if you actually have that much time on your hands.

To be fair, we here at The Tech Herald would collectively struggle to spend $10,000 USD on iTunes downloads, even with our editor’s insatiable hunger for German metal and Japanese pop – separately of course, a Germanese amalgamation would be horrid – but if it’s your thang, more power to you.

According to Apple’s official download ticker page, the iTunes Store download count currently stands at approximately 9.88 billion.
