Following the recent copyright actions of international Scrabble rights holders Hasbro and Mattel, which ultimately led to the demise of popular Facebook word game Scrabulous, an impetuously fresh-faced and free-to-download Tetris clone on Apple’s App Store has also now met with a similar fate.

A video arcade game exhibit showcased at the recent GCDC games convention in Leipzig, Germany, has been targeted for intense criticism after it melded classic Space Invaders-inspired gameplay with the 2001 terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York City.

Another month, another four weeks of frontrunner performance for Japanese gaming giant Nintendo in the U.S. market. According to NPD data for July, Nintendo has further solidified its hardware dominance with monthly sales of 608,400 units of its twin-screened DS handheld, and 555,000 units of its demographic-busting Wii home console.

A stylised action adventure that unfolds across a distinctive black and white game world often punctuated by gushing splashes of blood red, MadWorld is described by its creators as a gaming experience that “revolves around the themes of brutality and exhilaration,” reports The Daily Mail, which further labels MadWorld as “ultra violent.”
