Ford are adding support for Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G LTE amongst other apps to their SYNC connectivity system.

CarPlay works with the iPhone 5 and up via USB and lets you make calls, control music and use Siri to control the functions.

Android Auto works with 5.0 plus and gives you access to Google Play, Maps and other apps via the SYNC screen.

Speaking about the change Ford said they wanted to make staying connected easier for customers by allowing them “to maintain a connected lifestyle no matter their choice of smartphone, apps or services inside and outside their vehicle.”

In the US CarPlay and Android Auto will come with all 2017 models that are equipped with SYNC 3. Those with 2016 models will be able to update later in the year.

Owners will also be able to use the power of 4G LTE to setup remote starts of their vehicles, unlock doors, check fuel and find a parked car.
