Anker has clearly beaten Apple with its new PowerCore Magnetic 5K Wireless Power Bank. The sleek and wireless battery pack for the latest Apple iPhone with MagSafe can offer up to 5000mAh of power.

Popular accessory maker Anker has officially released a new MagSafe-compatible wireless power bank for the Apple iPhone 12 series of smartphones. Needless to add, the company now has the first-ever external battery pack for Apple iPhone devices that attaches magnetically and offers charge wirelessly.

Anker PowerCore Magnetic 5K Wireless Power Bank specifications, features:

The Anker PowerCore Magnetic 5K Wireless Power Bank has a capacity of 5,000mAh. With such a capacity, the wireless battery pack can charge an iPhone 12 mini from 0 to 100 percent, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro from 0 to around 95 percent, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max from 0 to 75 percent.

These are official numbers that Anker has claimed. Real-life charging conditions usually vary. Users can treat the new Anker power bank as an additional source of power, instead of a dedicated MagSafe-compatible charger.

The Anker PowerCore Magnetic 5K Wireless Power Bank accepts charge through a standard USB Type-C port. Interestingly, this device can charge itself a lot quicker than it can deliver charge to any Apple iPhone device.

The new Anker MagSafe-compatible power bank is not an official accessory. This means Apple iPhone smartphones that connect with these battery packs, can draw power between 5W and 7.5W.

The convenience of easily attaching a power bank magnetically to the MagSafe system is the Anker PowerCore battery pack’s salient aspect. Apple iPhone 12 users can easily attach the same to the back of their smartphones and it will act as a portable wireless charger. According to Anker:

  • Snap and Go: Simple and convenient wireless charging; just attach PowerCore magnetically to the back of your phone and watch the charging power flow.
  • Made for iPhone 12: Works flawlessly with iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Charges through compatible magnetic cases.

The power bank has simple LED indicators to show the remaining charge on the battery pack. Moreover, the USB Type-C port is bidirectional, which means it can charge other accessories as well.

Anker PowerCore Magnetic 5K Wireless Power Bank price, availability, and limitations:

Anker has slapped an MSRP of $39.99 on the PowerCore Magnetic 5K Wireless Power Bank. The company will officially start selling these wireless MagSafe battery packs from March 5, 2021.

Although the wireless charger is convenient, there’s a glaring limitation. Anker’s power bank is only “MagSafe-compatible,” not MagSafe certified. The Anker PowerCore Magnetic will reportedly be limited to standard Qi charging speeds of 7.5W with the iPhone 12.

Apple Inc. has been reportedly working to develop its own MagSafe accessories, including a power bank. However, the company is concerned about overheating.

Nonetheless, if Apple does launch a MagSafe-certified power bank, it will be unlocked for full speed of charging. This means Apple’s rumored MagSafe battery pack could charge an iPhone 12 device at up to 15W. This is the same speed as that of a standard wired MagSafe Charger.
